What is Civic Action Project?

Civic Action Project (CAP) is a free, flexible, and ready-to-use curriculum that makes it easy to integrate civic learning into Social Studies, ELA, or science classrooms. CAP offers research-based instruction that enhances students’ knowledge, skills, and civic mindset, preparing them to be active, informed participants in our democracy.

Two Ways to Implement Civic Action Project

Option 1: Academic Discipline Pathway

Choose lesson sets in a variety of academic discipline pathways that build foundational knowledge before students create and lead civic engagement projects or a civic research projects.

Option 2: Stand-Alone Civic Engagement Project or Civic Research Project 

Use CAP project lessons and planners to enhance your existing content with a high-quality, student-led project-based learning experience.

  • A structure combining classroom lessons and student-project guidance to help students choose an issue in their community that they care about. 
  • Flexible implementation that let teachers choose lessons tailored to their classroom needs. 
  • Lessons that are designed for middle and high school classrooms. 
  • Content that is always non-partisan, always free.
