Political polarization threatens our nation’s commitment to pluralism and civil liberty. The need for schools to prepare students for active participation in the democratic process is more urgent than ever.
USC's Rossier School of Education’s Democracy Project and the Constitutional Rights Foundation will facilitate a virtual learning exchange for school stakeholders to discuss the question: “How can schools be a vibrant catalyst for democratic engagement?” We will discuss new opportunities such as the California State Seal of Civic Engagement and strategies for overcoming obstacles facing school leadership – from boards of education to superintendents to teachers – in today’s environment.
Who: All are invited – district administrators, school board members, teachers, and school site administrators
Why: Explore together ways to enhance educational spaces for democratic participation, share challenges and concrete strategies, and learn about the State Seal of Civic Engagement
What: Keynote by Dean Pedro Noguera, USC Rossier School of Education, followed by small group discussions by stakeholder groups
