 An Exciting Opportunity for High School Juniors and Sophomores!


Since 1995, the Expanding Horizons Institute (EHI) has provided intensive skill development and personal growth experiences to first-generation, college-bound high school students. Our unique approach, which includes interactive seminars and paid summer internship, is designed to prepare students for the challenges of college, exposure to careers, and the responsibilities of civic life.

EHI is a dynamic program that offers the following opportunities:

  • Challenging yourself in new ways
  • Exposure to various professional career paths
  • Networking with successful professionals and other high school students 
  • Improving communication, collaboration, and leadership skills
  • Gaining confidence, responsibility, and independence
  • Receiving college admissions advice from experts
  • Becoming civically engaged

To participate, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Neither parent graduated from a four-year college
  • Currently a sophomore or junior attending a Los Angeles County Title I high school
  • Attend all seminars and complete internship hours from June to July. (Complete list of dates.)
  • Eligible to work in the United States 

Key Dates for 2025:

  • Application NEW deadline: March 21.
  • First round of interviews: March 28 & 29.
  • The second round of interviews will be at job sites in April.
  • Seminars and internship: June to July (Complete list of dates.
